Robins in crabapples a gorgeous sight in New England

Fecund --Abundant ---Fruit--Food

Robins Feast on profusions of crabapples
We have not had robins in New England at the feeders this time of year. Maybe they are stopping by on their way further south when once they just passed us by. Less in a hurry because its just not as cold as before. Our crabapple trees are overflowing with fruit. The robin, once common to my Midwestern eyes, now seems enormous and confounded us at first-- "what is that?"  Now they are like 747's among the juncos, finches, chickadees, and nuthatches.
What bird doesn't look better in red berries?

Those robins are big song birds. I like the photos of the robin with the crab apples and red berries. I wonder how long they will stay with us in Vermont this fall.

All birds look better in berries. I am going to take a page from Gays playbook and wrap or grow berries around everything that the birds will land on-- especially in winter. We have bittersweet, winterberry, crab apples, cranberry, and others. We have become avid watches and photographers of the birds and it helps if they are sitting in a great backdrop.

I have never seen so many robins eating the now-ripened and abundant crab-apples in our front yard here in Toronto.
I believe they are young birds and are on their way south (Mexico perhaps ?) ...we provide a re-fueling stop !
However, the mess they are making of the driveway and the car is aggravating. But then again, the beauty of the blossoms in the spring plus the fact that the fruit provides sustenance for the birds makes it "OK" !
